Sydney's May Day in pictures

Possum News Network, 8 May 2006

Sydney's annual May Day March on Sunday 7 May was one of the biggest in years with the major trade unions, left-wing political parties and international support groups participating. Around four thousand took part in the march from Hyde Park, through the retail heart of the central business district, and back to Hyde Park for a rally with speakers and music. The Howard Government's reactionary anti-trade union legislation was the major focus, but opposition to the war in Iraq and US threats to Iran, Venezuela, Cuba and Bolivia also featured in placards and banners.

A mass protest against the Howard Government's anti-worker laws is planned for Wednesday 28 June at Blacktown in Sydney's west.
